Qatar Youth Orchestra Students Benefit from Masterclass with Oboist Alex Klein

Students of the Qatar Youth Orchestra's woodwind, brass, and percussion sections were treated to an enriching online lecture by the world-renowned oboist, Alex Klein, on February 20. The event, organized as part of OAcademy's Orchestra Institute, aimed to provide top-tier music education to aspiring professional musicians who may not have access to traditional conservatories.

During the session, Mr. Klein shared detailed insights, valuable tips, and expert advice on how to excel in auditions and competitions, offering students a rare opportunity to learn from a master in the field.

Alex Klein, a Grammy-Award winning oboist born in Brazil, is widely celebrated as one of the finest performers on his instrument globally. He has clinched top honors in prestigious international competitions in Geneva, New York, Prague, and Tokyo. Klein's musical journey includes serving as the Principal Oboe with the Chicago Symphony under the baton of Daniel Barenboim, from which he departed due to Musician’s Focal Dystonia. He later rejoined the orchestra under Riccardo Muti, eventually receiving Emeritus status for his contributions.

A graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Klein is also the founder and Artistic Director of the FEMUSC Festival in Brazil. His extensive discography boasts dozens of recording titles, all of which have garnered widespread critical acclaim.

Currently serving as the Principal Oboe with the Calgary Philharmonic in Canada, Klein continues to maintain an international presence as both a performer and pedagogue, enriching the lives of students and audiences alike with his exceptional talent and expertise.
